The Celare Team We are a highly specialized and ambitious team of quantum engineers, serial entrepreneurs, laser, RF and electronics specialists, mathematicians, software engineers, and IC and FPGA designers. Based in Copenhagen, we combine deep academic expertise with hands-on experience in launching complex, high-impact technology products. The Role We are looking for an experienced System Software Engineer to play a central role in the development of our Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) systems. As part of a small and agile organization, you will contribute across the full product lifecycle — from early architectural decisions and prototyping to production and large-scale deployment. This is a hands-on role with real responsibility and influence. Responsibilities Participate in system software architecture and design of the QKD equipment Drive system software development from concept through prototype to manufacturing Translate customer input and operational requirements into product features, including specifications and scope Develop, configure, and maintain Linux-based system software Implement secure, high-uptime system architectures Work with SNMP, YANG, and related management interfaces Integrate and implement Key Management System (KMS) Ensure compliance with security standards and monitoring requirements Collaborate closely with specialists in software, electronics, and quantum physics Manage and coordinate external software subcontractors Qualifications Education in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science (B.Sc. or M.Sc.) with 5+ years experience in software design, system architecture and programming Strong C/C++, Linux programming, bash scripting and Python skills Experience with Linux OS, setup, configuration, VMs, VM deployments, Kernel development drivers and embedded setups (Debian, Suse, etc.) Experience with setting up and maintaining toolchains, CI/CD pipelines and test environments Experienced AI user and good prompting knowledge, using Copilot, Claude or similar Experience with management interfaces like SNMP, YANG, etc., including networking protocols and encryption standards Experience working with cyber security products and has the ability to design security into products throughout the whole lifecycle Adopts agile development with fast prototyping, fast to market and lean project management (and PM tools like Jira) Adheres to good software development practices, including comprehensive use of source management systems (Git), CI/CD tools, documentation, unit testing, etc. Thrives working in an international, multilingual and multicultural dynamic team with direct connection to academic research and bleeding edge technologies (Optional): Experience in different embedded target platforms like ARM, RISC-V. Experience with hardware protocols, like UART, I2C, SPI, AXI or similar. (Optional): Knowledge of electronics, hardware design, and reading schematics. Using test and measurement equipment, hardware debugging and so on. (Optional): Experience with telecommunications hardware equipment (Optional): Experience with Common Criteria and certified products.
